Adenolymphoma of Parotid Gland (Wartin¡¯s tumor)

Abstract
Adenolymphoma (Papillary cystadenoma lymphomatosum; Warthin¢¥s tumor) is a benign tumor of the parotid gland, arising- most commonly in the lower portion of the gland overlying the angle of the mandible. Microscopically, lymphoid tissue is prominent, often with germinal centers, and covering surface of the lymphoid tissue are large cells with granular cytoplasm similar to the cells seen in an oxyphil adenoma. There have been numerous theories of the histogenesis of this tumor. According to the most plausible theory, the tumor represents neoplastic proliferation of heterotopic salivary gland rests entrapped during growth and development in lymph nodes adjacent to or within the parotid gland.
However, reporting a case of this tumor, authors suggest that the lymphoid tissue .seen in the tumor may be originated by immunologic reaction of the host against the tumor.
